Act 1: History & Routines
(Story Element Cards: The Innocent, Subway Station, and Building a Friendship)
Carol’s commute was well practiced.
She left her flat at 7:45 a.m., walked casually to the metro station, and caught the 7:58 a.m. train toward work. She moved faster than most, and on mornings when she had a little extra time, she treated herself to something from the bakery opposite the metro entrance, assuming the line wasn’t too long.
The baker was always happy to see Carol when she stopped in.
His name was Klaus, a kind older gentleman who looked like a large, grey-haired toddler. Cheeks as round as apples, eyes like what Carol imagined an angel’s might be. There was something deeply comforting about him.
This morning, their relationship would evolve from something transactional into one of mutual trust and care.
But not yet.
For now, Carol had a train to catch.
She smiled, ordered her coffee and croissant, paid, and stepped back onto the street. Little did she know, it wouldn’t be the last time she saw Klaus that morning.
