Act 1: Outer Frame Introduction

(Story Element Cards: The Maverick, The Martyr, Place of Worship, and Drama)

Darlene found herself wandering the city one Wednesday when she came across the cathedral in the old part of town. She felt absolutely exhausted from her week. It had been brutal, but she pushed through, like she always did. This was her life.

As she entered the place of worship, she paused and asked herself, “What am I doing here?”

“Why are you here, my child?” she heard from behind her.

It was an old monk, and she could tell he had just smoked a joint. She was surprised that this hippie-looking pothead was spending his life in such a conservative setting.

Again, he asked, “Why are you here, my child?”
